Types of Anesthesia
Anesthesia is very safe, and there are different levels of anesthesia being rendered by Dr. Sophia.
Intravenous Conscious Sedation
- Twilight anesthesia in which medications are administered via an IV (intravenous) line.
- Patient is awake during the procedure; however, will not have a recollection of the events. This will relax the patient, reduce anxiety and help patient cope with the procedure.
- When conscious sedation is not enough for the dental procedure, deep sedation or general anesthesia is considered.
General Anesthesia
- Patient will be unconscious and sleeping completely during the procedure. The patient is administered medications via the IV line or inhalational agent through a facemask.
Dr. Sophia will consider what type of anesthesia is safe and adequate to be administered, specific to each patient’s needs, dental treatment, and the dentists' expectations.
